Also good luck!! I hope we both get accepted! Thanks! Yeah- fingers crossed for both of us. I think it depends on which labs of Annenberg/ faculty members one mentioned in the application. Out of curiosity, which lab/subfield/advisor did you apply to? thanks!

Research subfield would be Culture & Media. I mentioned the Center on Digital Culture and Society and the Media, Inequality, and Change Center. How about you? Edited January 14 by c202

elontries Posted January 15 Posted January 15 (edited) I got an email from a potential advisor at UPenn saying she reviewed my file, would love to work with me, and has her fingers crossed- good news! But she didn't say I was accepted. Does this mean the advisors' review is separate from the actual admissions? In other words, does this mean I actually have a chance 😅 Edited January 15 by elontries Jim VK and c202 2

I believe the department makes the decisions collectively, and several professors review the profiles they receive. At least that's what a professor from another university told me when I asked if he would accept students this year. May I kindly ask which area the professor who contacted you is from? Good luck with the process. Jim VK 1

Omkar Poojari Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Congrats! From what I remember- at Annenberg- the three potential advisors we mention review our applications- so it seems that you are already halfway through! May I ask which research centers/labs and subfield you applied to?

Oh my God, @colorvegas, you are leading this round's admission process. Congratulations! This program could be one of your top choices. I am really happy for you!!!

Was it Communication Studies or Mass Communication? I applied there too, but I didn't get anything. Would they be calling international applicants as well or do they only phone American numbers? Losing hope this cycle 🥺

CLudmila Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Hello everyone, has anyone here received any information about the University of Maryland's admissions? I asked on the main GradCafe website, but I haven't received responses from those who posted about admissions or interviews. I would like to know the area of those who applied and have already been contacted, whether the interview was conducted by a potential advisor or the committee, and the approximate date they applied (since the process closed on January 3rd). Thanks in advance!
colorvegas Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 Received an email tonight w/ an acceptance to University of Arizona, check your emails if you applied!

Thanks in advance! Hey! I actually applied another cycle and am currently in a PhD program but just came on here because I was curious (and helping to advise a couple people through the process right now). From my understanding and experience, Maryland always conducts an interview for their final round applicants by the program director. CLudmila 1

elontries Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I just got invited to an interview for American University's PhD in Comms- first response this cycle! c202, CLudmila and Martyna 3
Martyna Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I just got rejected from the University of Oregon 😭 Last year, I made it to the interview round, I'm really surprised by this one. This year my application was much stronger... they had about 150 applicants. If you applied there, check your emails.

This year seems incredibly insane for the application process for a Ph.D. in Communication. I received a rejection from one of my safeties, informing me that the acceptance rate was 2.5%. Only five were selected, and more than 200 applicants. The same situation happened with Cornell, in my case . I am crossing my fingers for you!

Omkar Poojari Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I wonder what the results would look like at UPenn's Annenberg? Is it not the most sought after program- probably in the league of Stanford/USC/Cornell?
