Hi everyone! Anyone here who received PhD offer from University of Virginia?

Fingers crossed (as an international). Results page here at GC is showing multiple acceptances.

Congrats to the Berkeley admits!

I still haven't received any decisions, but I'm looking forward to next week. Historically, it seems like a lot of schools tend to release the first week of February -- so I'd be really surprised if I still haven't heard anything a week from now.

Congratulations to those who received admissions from University of California Berkeley.  Asking for curiosity; had you applied from top Political Science Undergraduate or MA programs? Is there anyone who received admission offer from Berkeley with European MA degree? Asking for Comparative politics subfield.

What schools did you apply to?

Some schools like Penn, Yale take upto the second/third week to get back.

I'm mainly hoping to hear from Princeton next week, as they are usually early February. I also applied to Georgetown, GWU, Columbia, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Penn, and UCSD. I'm anticipating a UCSD rejection since they already sent out numerous acceptances, but I think that decision should also be out soon.

I got a notification from Johns Hopkins when I tried to apply for a PhD for SAIS that saids

"Please Note: The faculty and leadership of Johns Hopkins SAIS are currently undertaking a review of our PhD program and will not be admitting a new PhD cohort for the 2025-26 academic year. We expect to reopen applications next year for the 2026-27 academic year and look forward to considering your application then."

Did you apply for the Doctor of International Affairs?

They also have a PhD program for Political Science, as far as I know. But it is interesting that they will not admitting a PhD cohort this year.

Claiming another rejection from UC Berkeley as a CP candidate (2R/0A/8P). Damn this year must be really tough. Congrats to all who got in!

No, I applied to the political science department (not SAIS). I was originally thinking of applying to SAIS as well for a PhD but got the same message you did.

Having a Bad Undergrad grade (but good grades in Master's and other higher degrees) will hamper PhD admission?

It depends on universities; top PhD programs are quite selective. Whereas, mid-ranked programs might more focus on your higher grades during your Master program.

It also depends on where your undergrad grades are from. US programs know that (most) US GPAs are heavily inflated, so having even slightly "meh" grades could already be a bad sign in your application. Coming with grades from abroad, the programs will look closer at them, especially concerning your relative class standing. I, for example, came into a T10 program with undergrad grades that would be directly translated to a 3.2ish US GPA. In my home country, that still made me belong to the top 15% of graduates, however. I also completed a much better Master program, so that might have changed things too.

Best advice here is to be open about a seemingly "bad" grade and explain it in your letters or let your references explain them, if you can.

Just had my first interview, which was with Johns Hopkins. Honestly not too sure how it went, but in case it's helpful for others who are preparing for interviews, the questions were very focused on my research interests, how I would tackle them from a methodological perspective, and how I saw my fit at the school. It seems they narrowed the pool down to a shortlist and are interviewing everyone on that list to narrow down further before sending out offers.

It looks like UMN is out. Has anyone here received an offer? I checked the portal, and my application status still says awaiting decision
