I understand (according to their website) they don’t send all decisions simultaneously. Has anyone received an update? I had to respond to Northwestern about whether I would be attending their prospective students day by February 9 and the event is on February 21, so I would venture to say all acceptances have been sent, but I don't know that with 100% certainty. Uull6739 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Anyone interview invites to Caltech? Does anyone have AP acceptances to Duke?
jaliren Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Seems pretty quiet so far this week -- driving me crazy!

i_kant_anymore Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Claiming my R at UChicago -- they could've at least sent an email 🫡
PolSciComp Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Anyone here who applied to American University and received admission offer? As Graduate student there, I don't recommend the PhD program as the Department has very low funding during these days 😕 polsciAttempt, nnb1 and LanaFan 3

Seems to be one of the few programs with an independent IR department. Also, has anyone applied for Syracuse? PolSciComp 1

edwardsaid Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Claiming an R from UChicago! Oof this year is crazy! Even with my stats, past fieldwork, RA experience and a quantitative masters, I’ve gotten all rejections so far from the 10 programs I applied to. Congrats to those who got in!

University of Chicago is extra competitive program; don't feel your disappointed for not being able to getting into UChicago. I hope you would hear positive news from the remaining schools which you applied. Omkar Poojari 1
01anonymous Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) I am so nervous about all the waiting. Why aren't Columbia and UMich out? Edited February 12 by 01anonymous polisci001 1

Are these implied rejections? I am sure something will come along if that is the case. Most schools haven't come out, right?

Most schools haven't come out, right? I've received 5 out of 10 rejections, including UChicago's. Granted, my proposed topic was quite niche: China and MENA politics and political Islam. This could have been too risky. Still waiting for other programs like UMich, Yale and Harvard but the odds are not looking too good for me.
01anonymous Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Let's wait and not panic. I am really hoping at least 2-3 more schools will come this week. i_kant_anymore, smoothoperator77 and edwardsaid 1 2

I was intentionally a bit ambiguous with mine. I still tried my best to link them with the interests of certain faculty members. Hopefully it won’t backfire. Haven’t heard anything from any schools yet. Kudos to you for aiming high and applying for very competitive schools Did you apply for any “safety” programs? Best of luck!

Finding the right balance between the specificity and potential directions of my proposed topic was a challenge. Hopefully it's a good sign that you haven't heard from any schools. Thank you! I aimed high because the programs that would have the funding and the faculty to support my research would likely be in top programs only (MENA politics and extensive fieldwork with methodological innovation). I did apply for safety at UW but got rejected. Curious which programs you applied to!

I admire that you take your research interests seriously when you could just settle for a simpler topic that doesn’t require much funding. You will find the right place! I applied to AU, GWU, Indiana-Bloomington, Syracuse, UMichigan, Pittsburgh & UW-Madison. So far it seems like a few people have heard back from UW-Madison. Someone else said that they are still processing applications. Don’t know what to expect. No formal offers/rejection yet. Anxious asf lol edwardsaid 1

Like what's the point of doing coursework in the first two years when you have to have all the experiences and stats before even applying lol PolSciComp, Omkar Poojari, garmit and 4 others 2 5

Sorry to hear that! 😞 But to make you feel better: I heard from people at UChicago that this year, they will be more selective and will relatively admit more people from subfields that they had focused less on before (and less from the usual strong subfields there), to balance things out at the department. I guess that would mean more AP, methods and PE and less PT, CP and IR... PolSciComp and Omkar Poojari 2

I wish departments and PhD programs pre-announce their intention to admit more students from specific fields so that applicants would not feel disappointed or have at least some predictions 😕 Edited February 12 by PolSciComp Omkar Poojari and JPYSD 2

But I actually think most departments set their intensions while they are deciding who to take on and reviewing applications. I doubt that most committees sit together to discuss a direction ahead of the application opening or even deadline, sadly. Edited February 12 by JPYSD Omkar Poojari 1
PolSciComp Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Any George Washington PhD admits here? Just seen an admission post a few minutes ago for Comparative politics.
