Would anyone who’s been accepted to UMich be able to tell me the RSVP date for their preview day? I’m still waiting to hear from them, and I’m wondering if it’s a soft rejection. If the RSVP date is soon/has passed, I’ll assume so.

Hi, I hope you are fine. For those who applied to American University  - both SPA and SIS- I asked professors at both Departments and they told me that the each departments admitted 10 students at the initial stage but they didn't give information about how many students have been waitlisted.

I would reach out to them…UMich released all of their decisions at once on Feb 12, including waitlists. I was notified by email, but I never had a portal update. If you didn’t receive an email, I would say reach out.

I did and received the message that they were still reviewing my app. Maybe because I applied to joint Political Science/public policy?

Oh, interesting! I know they released decisions for the joint program, too. I would be surprised if they don’t end up following up with you though. Maybe give them until the end of the month and then follow up if you haven’t heard back?

They said fewer than 1 in 20. They also didn't accept applications this year for IR so I am surprised that number is so high and the acceptance rate is so low.

For us poor souls who are still waiting to hear news from Cornell, do you know if the acceptances were all sent out at once?

I don't have much insider information about this year's process (the admissions committee does not tell current grad students really anything about the admissions process), except for when the grad student open house is, so that we can plan to be there to meet people. 

Last year though, I think they sent out all acceptances and waitlists on the same day, and then the graduate field assistant sent out all the deny emails a few days later. 

 

I'm so sorry you haven't heard anything yet -- I know the wait is agonizing. I wish you the best in this stressful process!

Hi! I am super curious to hear about how you like living in Ithaca? I live in a northeast metropolitan city and honestly living in an area like Ithaca is one of my biggest hang ups.

This is a totally valid question. I'm also from an area bigger than Ithaca, so I also had my reservations about being in Ithaca. The town/city has honestly grown on me a good bit though. Ithaca has a nice array of stores, restaurants, and businesses for a city of its size (we have Wegmans and Trader Joes, as an example). I quite enjoy how short of a drive it is to everything. The weather is certainly quite cold. but if you're from the northeast I'm sure you are used to that. I would definitely attend the visit days and see how you feel about the area. I turned down another PhD offer in a much bigger urban area to attend Cornell because I felt like Cornell's PhD program was stronger! Happy to answer any more questions

Does anyone know if Yale acceptances have been sent out? I see only one post claiming an acceptance via phone call in early February, which is a bit odd?

they let us know today that the deadline to RSVP for their admit open house is Feb 26th (i'm political theory)
