To those who have been waitlisted at various programs: I am thinking about creating a new forum. I think it would be good place to just discuss different things and share our anxieties- I guess it is a bit frustrating for others to see those posts here (and understandably so). So, should we make a new forum?

Go ahead please! I don't think many people would say no to more useful platforms and more information!

Anyone here who received admission from Washington-St.Louis Political Science PhD program? I have been waitlisted there for Comparative Politics, I just wanted to ask some questions to those received offer from there.

Claiming Michigan rejection and they said that they had over 600 applicants and accept around 4 percent. This has been a humbling experience and I believe I am going to find a path outside of academia for a while if I get rejected from the rest.

I heard ever since COVID, there has been an increase in the competition for PhD. Do you guys think this will be the norm for the next few years?

When did you receive the waitlist notification? WashU was my top choice (applied for AP), but I’ve heard nothing, so I’m assuming rejection 😭

It was on February 5th, namely last week.

Thanks. I hadn’t seen anyone post about being waitlisted at WashU, so this is helpful information

Just got an acceptance to American University's PhD in International Relations after making that comment haha. Pretty pleased as this is my first acceptance!

Congrats! They actually just announced that they officially became R1-classified today, so good day for the both of you, haha! It is a nice and friendly place - hopefully funding will get better for everyone.

Oh, nice! I didn't know this. Do you have a link to the announcement?

It is a new R1 but unfortunately, its Department of Government is quite static and does almost nothing 😕

Does NYU just not send rejections? I could be mistaken, but lots of acceptances and waitlists have been posted and the only rejections I see are from previous cycles with many being offers for an non-funded masters. The cycle has worked out for me so I am not like heartbroken I just want to be able to cross it off my spreadsheet and stop checking.

I would like to ask to what extent PhD admission committees really focus on GPAs of applicants; do they tend to determine a cut-off level? I saw one applicant who posted his or her admission from George Washington University with GPA level 3.22; probably Undergraduate GPA. Couldn't be sure how they assess different GPA levels from American applicants and applicants applying from the US.

NYU typically sends rejections very very late and most of their rejections are actually acceptances into their master program with no funding, of course. Really stupid system - they clearly just want to make money.

But take it with a grain of salt, as the other commenter said, referring to the Government Department. SIS is quite different and great, however! But funding still an issue usually. (I did not go to AU, but know many people there)

Seeing a Columbia acceptance on the results page, but my portal still shows no change in status. Any other applicants to Columbia in this thread?
