With the Dec 1st deadline rapidly approaching, I started this thread for Bio/Biochem/Biophysics/Molecular/Cell/Dev/Cancer Bio and other related PhD programs (I believe there is already a Neuro thread). Please feel free to share anything from results or responses in the coming weeks (share the program name and any other relevant details) or complain about the process in general! You're also welcome to post applicant stats (research experience, GPA, domestic/international, number of schools you applied to, etc.) as well - best of luck everyone, and congratulations for even hitting submit on these applications!!

Hi everyone! I received an interview with Penn BBCB earlier this afternoon (12/12 at 2 PM EST) - super surprised to hear back so early! I have a 3.7 undergrad GPA, ~2 years of full-time research experience (Currently in my second year of a post-bacc at a T10), and 3 poster presentations (won one national award) - mostly interested in structural biochemistry.

Still waiting to hear back from like 10 other programs lol, but fingers crossed we'll get some emails next week!

I received another invite from UCSF Biophysics earlier this afternoon (12/16)

@tai_dex I shared a bit above but I'm a domestic applicant with a BS in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from an R1 public land grant school (3.7 GPA) and graduated with only one meaningful research experience (REU after junior year) mostly due to COVID. I started an NIH post-bacc program at a T10 university last summer (totaling around 20 months of full-time research experience) before applying for the first time this fall. I have no publications, have presented at 3 conferences, one of which was national where I received an poster presenter award in my category within Life Sciences.

I also think it's still a little bit early for the bulk of programs - from what I understand (at least at my current institution), there was a huge increase in the number of applicants compared to prior years for the same number of spots. I think this may have led to longer reviews, additional, committee meetings, etc. so that they can give everyone the best chance possible! if you haven't heard back yet, the programs you applied to might just be getting through a bigger pile of apps! No news is good news :))

Thanks, keeping optimistic. Received rejection from GW. One of the fastest rejections just a few weeks after submitting application

Posting here out of desperation... the only place I have something close to an interview offer is IU Indianapolis's IBMG program, but they said they're at capacity and can only offer me one if someone cancels. If anyone sees this, has not yet conducted their interview, and is certain that they don't plan on accepting an offer from IU, you'd make me the happiest person ever by canceling your interview!!! (Not trying to rob an opportunity from those who want to go there, ofc. Just people who don't plan on going.)

Man how many applications do you have out there? I'm not even sure if I applied to IU, otherwise I would have cancelled for you. I already received several rejections, but at least 2 other schools show an interest, with one of them moving things very fast to the final stage of an offer, hopefully.

So yes I agree for people to decline interviews for you if they don't plan on going.

Good luck
