unzipyourgenes Posted November 28 Posted November 28 With the Dec 1st deadline rapidly approaching, I started this thread for Bio/Biochem/Biophysics/Molecular/Cell/Dev/Cancer Bio and other related PhD programs (I believe there is already a Neuro thread). Please feel free to share anything from results or responses in the coming weeks (share the program name and any other relevant details) or complain about the process in general! You're also welcome to post applicant stats (research experience, GPA, domestic/international, number of schools you applied to, etc.) as well - best of luck everyone, and congratulations for even hitting submit on these applications!! mc1234, gubgubgubber and SuperSaiyan 3

crisprcas13d Posted December 12 Posted December 12 I applied to 8 PhD programs in bio/bioe this cycle! I have 0 clue what will happen but I've been a tech since graduating last year and have quite a bit of experience now. Fingers crossed for us :) liesylou and unzipyourgenes 2
unzipyourgenes Posted December 13 Author Posted December 13 Hi everyone! I received an interview with Penn BBCB earlier this afternoon (12/12 at 2 PM EST) - super surprised to hear back so early! I have a 3.7 undergrad GPA, ~2 years of full-time research experience (Currently in my second year of a post-bacc at a T10), and 3 poster presentations (won one national award) - mostly interested in structural biochemistry. Still waiting to hear back from like 10 other programs lol, but fingers crossed we'll get some emails next week! liesylou 1
NextGenResearcher Posted December 14 Posted December 14 I received an interview invite to UCLA biosciences (Genetics and Genomics) on 12/13/24!

mc1234 Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Recieved BCM invite for Cancer Biology Program 12/9/24 (email)
tai_dex Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Wow, Nice, wishing you the best guys I haven't received any interviews. Can you share your profiles?
unzipyourgenes Posted December 17 Author Posted December 17 (edited) I received another invite from UCSF Biophysics earlier this afternoon (12/16) @tai_dex I shared a bit above but I'm a domestic applicant with a BS in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from an R1 public land grant school (3.7 GPA) and graduated with only one meaningful research experience (REU after junior year) mostly due to COVID. I started an NIH post-bacc program at a T10 university last summer (totaling around 20 months of full-time research experience) before applying for the first time this fall. I have no publications, have presented at 3 conferences, one of which was national where I received an poster presenter award in my category within Life Sciences. I also think it's still a little bit early for the bulk of programs - from what I understand (at least at my current institution), there was a huge increase in the number of applicants compared to prior years for the same number of spots. I think this may have led to longer reviews, additional, committee meetings, etc. so that they can give everyone the best chance possible! if you haven't heard back yet, the programs you applied to might just be getting through a bigger pile of apps! No news is good news :)) Edited December 17 by unzipyourgenes NextGenResearcher and tai_dex 1 1
NextGenResearcher Posted December 17 Posted December 17 I got an interview to Upenn camb and rejected from Umich pibs on 12/16 unzipyourgenes 1
