PhD in Europe?

Who can assess the value of a Philosophy PhD in Europe? I was invited by a professor to apply for a particular fellowship, available to just four PhD students across the whole division of the institution. With the professor's support, I feel like I've got a chance, and I'm all for the relocation. But what will a PhD from Europe mean for my career prospects? The funding is equal to that of the best funded US programs, for what it's worth.

If it’s the Sorbonne or an equivalent, you have a chance at posts in the US. If not, your prospects would likely be limited to Europe, with an emphasis on the country where you studied.
