Question

Posted

I recieved an interview email 2 weeks after submitting my application to UMD PhD in BISI MOCB track. Had an interview in the holidays and it went well. It was 30-35 minutes long and the professor was friendly and asked a few general questions (interests, who I'd like to work with, research and work experience, why this university etc). He mentioned he is only the interviewer and is retiring in a year or two hence he is not taking candidates but other people who have similar research interests are recruiting PhD students (my research interests matched his).

He ended the conversation saying I was a good candidate and he hoped I'd get in but I will probably not hear back for quite a while (did not mention exactly how long) as the department has to make the decision based on other international/domestic student ratio criteria too.

I just found out they have recruitment events in early to mid Feb for selected students but haven't heard anything. The professor didn't mention anything about this either.

I'm worried. Am I rejected or will they send an email just a few days before the event?
