Eskie2025 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Hello, I am just wondering if anyone has applied for this year. I am about to do the entrance exam. I am nervous. I am completing my health science degree and my grades are not the best but I have a lot of life and volunteer experience that I think will help, my focus on becoming a social worker revolves around the housing crisis. I am wondering what the GPA is to get in. Mine is 3.56 right now. Thanks in advance.
haileym10 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Hey! I also applied for the HBSW at Lakehead and did the entrance exam on the weekend. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be if that helps ease your anxiety. I'm not sure what the GPA is to get in but they have a breakdown of what they weight each component of the application on their website if you want to look at that. I'm sure your experience will help boost your application. Good Luck!
Eskie2025 Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 I've spoken to a few other current students and they seem to really love it so I hope we both get in!
aemily Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Hi! I have applied as well. The minimum grade requirement for this program is listed on the website as 70%— so I believe this is the absolute minimum they will consider for admission. However, I have heard that this program is competitive, so I’m fairly certain there will be applicants with varying grade averages. I have an honours degree in Gender & Women Studies form YorkU, but I’m not entirely certain what my GPA would be as YorkU uses a different grading scale. If I were to guess, I would put myself at a 3.7-4. I was actually extremely nervous for this whole application process, as I’m still uncertain of how competitive this program truly is. I have also heard amazing things from this program, so I have my fingers crossed! Now I have just been spending everyday anxiously anticipating to hear from admissions. The wait is truly killing me!

Hey! I've heard the program is competitive too which makes me quite nervous especially since they never specified how many people get into the program each year. I keep checking the website to see if anything has changed but we still have a bit to wait I think. What campus did you apply to?
aemily Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I keep checking as well! I applied to the Orillia campus, which campus did you apply to?

aemily Posted February 22 Posted February 22 That’s so exciting! I also have my fingers crossed for the both of us. I feel like it would be extremely helpful to have a discord where everyone could get in contact with each other! It would be nice to have a little support system during this waiting time

There hasn't been too many people on this thread lately but if others are open to it that would be helpful and also give us an opportunity to connect if we get in!
aemily Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I ended up making a sever directly part of the Lakehead Hub on discord. If you make a discord account, there is a section where you can add a school email so it can direct you to different servers in relation to your school. If you’d like, feel free to sign up and join the Lakehead Hub! In that hub, you’ll find the HBSW 1-Year Program server. I would post the link but it won’t allow me to!
Eskie2025 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 I am already on the lakehead server but i am not sure how to find HBSW 1-Year Program server on here, I don't see where i can put in an email...
aemily Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I’ll try to paste the link without directly pasting it because every time I try, my comment is removed: https:// discord .gg/ bptmA8XF ^ So basically take that link, copy it, and paste it without all the spaces I’ve added so that it’s one complete link. I’ve just added the spaces so that it’s not flagged as a link!
