polisciad Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Hello. I applied to 10 universities for fall 2025. I am an international student with double master's, and one is a US master's. I contacted Illinois Urbana-Champaigne and was informed I am on their waiting list. Does this mean I am on the waiting list for all other schools, too? I know it's too early to say, but someone said this usually means I am on the waiting list for all others. Should I still be hopeful? Or do anything to better my chances?
JPYSD Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Congratulations on that waiting list - depending on the university, they are often short, so you have a good chance to still get a spot there. To your question: You have all the chances still. This does not mean anything at all. Many applicants receive rejections from most of their schools and then suddenly an acceptance for their dream school. It really depends on the specific fit, not so much on the general credentials you presented to all schools. There is no centralized system, so don't worry! 🙂 polisciad and LanaFan 1 1

I was placed on the waiting list of UIUC too, I think it’s still too early to give a definitive answer of the application status of your other options. It’s actually based on lots of things, fit, level of competitiveness across different subfields, and luck of course. So I wouldn’t be surprised if one gets into a top choice and rejected or waitlisted by a less better one. Wish you will have good news coming soon! polisciad 1
