coffee or death Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I applied to University A solely on the basis of my interest in the work of a particular faculty member. They have invited me for an interview but as of now I might have to shell out for air travel. They are iffy about reimbursement but want an answer asap.Would it be ok to give a conditional affirmative or request a phone interview?
newms Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Firstly, congrats on getting your interview. If it were me, I would re-affirm my interest in the school, but check to see if a phone interview would be possible dues to the costs involved - there is nothing to lose from asking. If they say no, then it's really up to you if you are able to spend the money to go there for the interview. Be aware though that in some instances (I don't know about your field, or this particular school) they don't accept people who don't go for the interviews.
neshmi Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Yeah, that is a tough one. Best of luck, and it certainly doesn't hurt to ask, and hopefully they will grant you a reimbursement!
jynx Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Related question: how do you handle asking about reimbursement? I had one interview I had to fly across the country for, and I didn't even think to ask if they would reimburse me, since I figured they would probably have offered up front if they were willing to help cover my expenses. What is the etiquette for this?
