ruslik Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I've applied to the CS departement at UofT, but still didn't hear from them. They started to send out their decisions at January. On the other hand, they promised to be done by the end of March, so I probably have another month to suffer the uncertainty... I wonder if there is any reliable way to check my status online. In the DCS form I only have my transcipts checkbox marked, but neither GRE nor TOEFL checkboxes were checked (other univesity got all my grades by the begining of January)... On the graduate school site I have "Documents pending" status. Is this a reason I still didn't hear anything? Those of you who have been accepted (or rejected) - did you have you status updated online?

Those of you who have been accepted (or rejected) - did you have you status updated online? I haven't applied to UofT but i think you should contact the graduate program secretary at UofT as soon as possible and report about such a problem with your application. You should bring this thing in their notice. Its too long now and if the status still shows some documents pending then there might be some problem. By the way when did you submitted your application?
pgx Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I'm in the same boat. Also, if you check the survey page there're only 2 people that applied to MSc and got a decision (some of them were rejected by mail tho!).
ruslik Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 By the way when did you submitted your application? By their firs deadline, which was on December 7. I'm in the same boat. Also, if you check the survey page there're only 2 people that applied to MSc and got a decision (some of them were rejected by mail tho!). I've applied for Ph.D., and there were multiple acceptances and rejections already...

Those of you who have been accepted (or rejected) - did you have you status updated online? The status is the same for me as you even now. I applied for MSc. CS before the Dec 8 deadline. The documents pending status on the graduate school site is not a problem as they mention above that the transcript should be sent to them if you are selected before april 15. For this reason, I didn't send my transcript by post (only uploaded online). The status for all 3 boxes (GRE, TOEFL, Transcript) in DCS application form is unchecked for me. So I think its the same for all applicants and not something to worry about.
ruslik Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 So I think its the same for all applicants and not something to worry about. It's really encouraging. Thanks.
still_unsure Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) So they're very late with the MS decision this year. Any "insider" information on what's going on ? Edited March 1, 2011 by still_unsure
frenzydude Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 So they're very late with the MS decision this year. Any "insider" information on what's going on ? Probably all of us are too good for them and they can't decide which ones to take
still_unsure Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Probably all of us are too good for them and they can't decide which ones to take Or someone forgot to take the trash out (send the rejections) .
Bleu Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I've also applied for PhD CS at UofT. The status of my TOEFL, GRE and Transcripts is still unchecked, and documents pending in the grad app, which the last one is apparently normal. I emailed them a couple of times, but only got an automatic response. Before the deadline, they responded to my emails very quickly, even withing 2-3 hours, but after the deadline, I didn't hear from them anymore. I have applied for a couple of other Canadian schools, and my status in none of them has changed since the deadlines!
pgx Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Someone submitted an acceptance today to /survey, so maybe the decisions are coming soon ...
ruslik Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 I still haven't heard anything from them. And of course, no changes online... The wait is so horrible.... I wish it would be already over.
still_unsure Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 It's clear that it's too late for acceptances, why don't they send out the rejections already ....
Bleu Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I don't think that's true. Some American schools make acceptances first, and then send out all the rejections. But I think that's not the case for all the schools specially Canadian ones. However, the bad thing about UofT is that there's no online status, and they don't answers emails anymore.
Poppet Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Why don't you call the department directly to ask them for more information? I'm not in CS, but I've found that despite the fact that graduate departments must get a million phone calls a day from eager and anxious and annoying students, they are always helpful even if they are limited in the info they can provide. I've called U of T for the past two days in a row and have only received helpful information, and just today I called LSE and they told me that they couldn't say anything about my application, then told me that it was "probably" still being considered, and then admitted that a decision had actually already been made. Obviously this might mean that a negative decision might have been made, but at least with some friendly persistence I'm getting some answers. The U of T online app is notorious for never being properly updated, so I'd just go ahead and call the department if I were you.

I called them a few days ago, said that we should expect decisions until mid-March and if we don't get anything by then, we should call them for a definitive answer.
Bleu Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Do you know how many students have applied for grad CS, and how many seats they have? Do you think there's more than 1000 applicants?
ruslik Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 we should expect decisions until mid-March It's in 5 days!!! This doesn't leave too many optimism.
ruslik Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) OMG, tons of rejections appeared on the resutls board since yesterday. Is anyone still waiting or everyone already has the decision? I am still waiting, and the feeling is really frustrating. I have at least the weekend unitil my decision comes.... Why do they skip me??? Edited March 12, 2011 by ruslik
Bleu Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I am still waiting for my rejection! It seems that they were right about saying that most decisions will be made till mid March.
ruslik Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) I am still waiting for my rejection! Don't be so pessimistic. I believe it's not final unless it's really final. It might be a wait list decision, which is not sent, or something like this. We just need to wait another couples of days, though it's so difficult... Edited March 12, 2011 by ruslik
Bleu Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Maybe you're right, but are you sure whether they have such a waiting list? By the way, it's very interesting that you have only applied to these two schools, since there are a couple of other top ones between these two, such as UBC, Waterloo, and Alberta.

By the way, it's very interesting that you have only applied to these two schools, since there are a couple of other top ones between these two, such as UBC, Waterloo, and Alberta. Trully, I have no idea whether they have it or not, but I just trying to find reasonable explanation why I don't here from them. Regarding my applications there are several reasons. I am not Canadian yet, and I have discovered this forum too late during my application. I didn't really know where to apply to, since I have never heard of any Canadian university and of couse had no idea of thier reputation. I applyied to 2 that according to my googling seemed to be OK. I was also considering to apply to Queen's university, but then changed my mind mainly because it is located in a relatively small town... If I won't get in this year, I will probably try next year other universities... I still have hope for this year, however...
