yaotai Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I am a Taiwanese student. Up to now, I am luckily admitted by UCSD, UMass, Syracuse, but rejected by lots of schools like UCB、UMich、Stanford、UW-Madison、UMN、OSU、NCSU、Oregon… I guess there’s no denying that the application of international students become a little bit difficult these year because of the financial consideration and the limited "quota" for outlanders. So….I am just curious… Are there any international students here who apply for 2011 Soc program? And your results?

And your results? i am international from china mainland. i am pretty sure the private schools, especially the top ones, like the ivies and stanford don't care about your nationality. but for state school, even good ones like berkeley, internationals are MUCH harder to get in. for that reason, i didn't apply to very many state schools.
fred1989 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I am an Australian student. I am ethnic Chinese so I guess we (everyone who has posted on this thread so far) have that in common. I've applied to Minnesota, Johns Hopkins, UNC, Duke, and Harvard. So far I've been accepted by Minnesota and Johns Hopkins (both with full funding), rejected by UNC, and still waiting on Duke and Harvard to contact me. I wish you guys success!!
dreaming 1 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Hey, I'm international, from the UK. It is true about state schools being tougher to get into as internationals, even top top programs like Wisconsin and Berkeley. As pointed out on this thread, private universities don't care a bit, so they look more promising! My two offers are from private schools as well! Good luck!
woonitza Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I am international applicant, from a crappy semi-failed post-communist European country. I got admitted at two programs for now (Northeastern and U Miami), but waiting for funding allocation at the both. I am wait-listed at another two (USC and McGill). Have been rejected by couple of top schools (UC Berkeley and Cornell). I am expecting a couple of more decisions soon. And I'm getting quite anxious now with all this waiting ahead.

Takky Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) I'm an international student from a South East Asian country. Have been rejected from UT Austin and U of WIsconsin Madison still waiting for Texas A&M College Station and U of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I've received offers from University of Iowa and University of California Riverside (UCR). Also would like to receive some opinions about which one is better. U of Iowa's ranking is higher according to U.S. News and World Report but I think the weather in California is better. Edited March 8, 2011 by Takky
Bellamex Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hi! I am an international student form Mexico, I have been rejected from UT Austin and Wisconsin and waiting for other two. I think that "No news is good news"?

Hey saw your message and replied. I am not able to attend, so say hi to the people there. I hope it won't hurt my chances to get funding?!
yaotai Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Hi! I am an international student form Mexico, I have been rejected from UT Austin and Wisconsin and waiting for other two. I think that "No news is good news"? well...maybe... if there are no results from other applicants share here, it's highly positive with your application... but if admission results show many people have been admitted, then the outcomes might not look good.
Derrick Rose Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 that depends on your financial package. all things equal, definitely riverside. you'll have so much fun there.
