Guest ptoliporthos Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 I live in Ithaca (not a grad student - yet) but I made aboput 16K working and thought that was fairly comfortable as a living wage in Ithaca. My apartment was 500 + utilities and I spend most of my money on books and alcohol - so I imagine that 19k for a single grad student should be very comfortable.
Guest Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Thats plenty. Rent is cheap in Ithaca, as is transportation and entertainment. I was looking for a new apt myself and found this site: http://www.ithacarenting.com/other.html $300 apts! You get what you pay for but thats just an idea.
Guest Econ Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Digger, I received the same award (you're in econ., right?), and am also wondering if it will be enough for Ithaca. I have a friend who received $30k from Stanford, and he thinks the Cornell offer will probably go farther in Ithaca, than his award will in Palo Alto. Congrats on your admit. I'll probably see you in the Fall.
Guest Qq Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 There is nowhere in Ithaca for you to spend money, so I think you have far more than enough
Bianca Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I got the same Cornell fellowship from the Human Development dept and everyone I talked to who already lives there says it's more than enough, especially if you share an appt
Guest digger Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Thanks people. Hey Econ, yeah I am Econ but Applied Econ. But I guess first years are the same. I am actually very much "Econ" at heart just too risk averse Definitely see you in the Fall. All the best.
