theatrehippie Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I recently received an email acceptance that mentioned that I would be receiving a packet by mail from the admissions office, and sent what I thought was an appropriately non-committal but thankful reply. But now I am paranoid and second-guessing myself. Was this an okay response to an acceptance email? "Dear AdCom Contact, Thank you! As you can imagine, I am thrilled. I look forward to receiving the admissions package. Sincerely, Theatrehippie" A few days later I did get the admissions package in the mail. Of course I haven't sent in the response card or the deposit, since I haven't made my decision yet. Worst case scenario, I can't be bound to anything since I haven't sent in the official response card, right? I am way overthinking this. Grad school has made me crazy!
ouibeque Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 If you accidentally accepted by expressing excitement about your admission, I have accidentally accepted multiple offers! In all seriousness, though, I think it's fine to be enthusiastic--assumedly, you only or mainly applied to programs that you would sincerely love to attend, so it's natural that you would be excited by good news and respond accordingly. These adcomms will know that, but they will also know that you have applied to many lovely places and probably received other, equally-exciting pieces of good news. Relax! You haven't accepted, even unofficially, until you use that actual word. Yes, grad school applications have made you insane, but that's true of most of us.
