I'm applying to immunology phD programs at several schools that do not require a CV. Would it be beneficial for me to include a CV in my application even though they do not ask for it? Or would this be a bad idea?

I don't think you can lose anything by including it. You can only gain something. rolleyes.gif I'd say go for it!

A couple of my programmes did not require a CV (or even a writing sample) - and UNLESS it was clearly specified on their website NOT to send any unrequested materials, I sent to them everything I had. laugh.gif

Thanks! I was thinking along the same lines, but I didn't want to fall into that "You didn't follow instructions so we're automatically going to toss your application" category!

I'm in a different field entirely, but I had one school that didn't want a CV with the application. I felt that there was some important information not conveyed in my SoP that was important for the committee to see (teaching experience, conference organization, awards, etc.). I contacted the graduate coordinator at the program and briefly mentioned a few of the things that I felt would be missing were I unable to include a CV; she understood, agreed, and told me to load it up along with my SoP. I would just check first to be sure, you don't want to get tossed.

I agree to send it in - it can't hurt. I sent in my CV to schools that hadn't requested it - it does add things that you may not be able to fit anywhere else on your application. At worst, they'll just ignore it, at best, it adds a touch of professionalism to your application while providing a nice summary of your professional and research history.
