cbyerschile Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) I'm guessing it will be in the next hour or two. They were pretty definitive about today being the day. Also, for Admissions, I think they (a) have to send out admissions and rejections together in this digital age AND (b ) they like sending rejections after the office is closed on a Friday. That way, people have a weekend to cool off before the phone rings off the hook. Just a theory. Good luck everyone! The wait continues. I guess we'll hope for next week -- I just wish the university would be more accurate or realistic with its announced decision dates. 4 plus months is a long time... Alyson_gr Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 OMG. I just called and they said - by April 30th, but it sounded like on April 30th. I can't wait that long. Maybe someone else should call and check that it isn't an April Fool.
Aoteroa Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Argh! I just called them as well and they said the decisions are "by April 30th". I said that was unhelpful when other schools want a decision by April 15th but they were unsympathetic. I said that I'd previously been told the decisions would come out this week and she said that information was not accurate. This is very frustrating.
cbyerschile Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 OK. There goes my theory. I just called and heard the same thing. I asked why they had been saying today (and, previously, had been saying by yesterday) and their response was that they had misinformation. Apparently, they just learned today that the real date will be the end of THIS month. Wow.
policy_wonk_18 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Well, that's just crazy. I'll be shocked if it's another month -- that would basically give those who enroll about two months to transition their lives to Cambridge before summer courses start. Perhaps they're erring on the side of caution so as to not mislead anyone in the event that there are further delays. cbyerschile 1
matty Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I guess I was one of the last to call before they closed for the day ....and weekend (the staff must be elated not to hear from us MC/MPAs over the weekend - ha!) When I spoke with them earlier this week they were indeed definitive about sending out decisions by today. In fact, they specifically stated "on Friday April 1st" She apologized for the inaccurate information they gave out earlier this week and said to expect decisions "by April 30th". Since they have been less than accurate about the decision date my take would be to expect it later than sooner and if it comes early so be it. I also found out that last year they sent out decisions as late as April 22nd!! (as late as 3 -4pm PST!) Although they had a lot more time to review apps this year. Enjoy your weekend and good luck to all! PS After all is said and done it would be beneficial to provide candid feedback to Admissions to improve the process and communication :-) any volunteers?

Last year's decision(s) for MC/MPA came out on 3/25/2010 a Thur.My rejection came at 3.25pm PST via email. I'm thinking this year they have more applications than they had last year...or fewer manpower to go thru' them.
matty Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 It appears that decisions trickled in over a span of several weeks last year...another applicant received his decision during the last week of April in 2010! For those that are seriously considering other programs requiring decisions by 4/15/11, I suggest you call admissions to reiterate your dilemma and also ask to speak with the Admissions Coordinator or Director of Admissions to discuss your situation. If they are unable to connect you (I'm sure they are inundated) request them to kindly forward yoru message - I'm sure this will encourage them to send out decisions sooner than later. I also suggest that all of us call next week again for updates to encourage them and also post updates on here! Thanks and enjoy your weekend!
policy_wonk_18 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Based on their projected date for MPP decisions of "by March 31", and actual decision dates beginning on March 14 (according to the other thread), I suspect that we'll hear from them starting mid-April. Last year's midcareer decisions seemed to trickle in after the first week of April. Plus, I do think they'll want to accommodate folks that need to make decisions on other schools by the 15th. While we wait, I'm curious as to how many of you will definitely attend if admitted. If so, how will you finance your year of schooling? Mostly loans, or hoping for some fellowships?

Thanks for all the information - I'm in the same position as many of you and need to reply to another school (WWS) by 15 April. I'm not definitely going to HKS as I need to know whether I get any financial aid (I previously applied for the MPP and received a fellowship but I didn't take it up). If I get something from HKS I could cover the rest with savings/loans. If I get nothing from HKS then I don't think I can turn down the generous offer at WWS. I've had student loans before and they take way longer to pay off than you think.

I bet someone at HKS just called out April Fool!!!! Relax, I am sure everything will be fine. In a similar boot as you, so trying to keep my self entertained!
Aoteroa Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 I hope it was an April Fools....it certain fooled me! Can the people accepted already to the Mason program let us know if their course information says when the Summer Camp beings? Last year it was 21 July but I wonder whether this year because the terms at Harvard are meant to start earlier whether it will begin 18 July? I figure most of us have to resign jobs and shift at least cities, if not countries, to get there in time so any inside word would be appreciated! I bet someone at HKS just called out April Fool!!!! Hey, the last time I spoke asst director of admission at HKS, I was told that the mason fellows have to be in Cambridge by the 29 June for a 2 week induction and then the rest of the MC/MPAs arrive in July. I have to give 90 days notice at work which for me should have been 29 March; so I am a week past my cut off date for notification. Good luck to us all!! Edited April 4, 2011 by tkdgva
trotamundos Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Thanks to everyone for posting their information -- it's comforting to see that other MCMPA applicants have also gotten conflicting information on decision dates. I also have to reply to a program by April 15th, but the lady I spoke to said there's no guarentee that we'll receive replies in time. Seems rather amazing that they didn't take this into account. I agree with the suggestion that we should continue to call and emphasize the need for prompt decision notification. On the start date for the program, I was told by the registrar's office that it would be July 20. Keep posting everyone!
needfinancialaid Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 tkd I was also interviewed for the mason mmpa on march 7th, the interview was not easy just like any harvard interview really but felt it went ok, i believe all mason apps are interviewed ?? everyone, from previous years, people have received either mailing or email notification of decision good luck i hope someone frees us from the anticipation turmoil soon!
needfinancialaid Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 the start date is definitely mid July I was anticipating around 21st for the mason's, it obviously helps and is recommended to settle down in Cambridge by June's end
bhagesri Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) Even the lady who interviewed me told me that we have to be in Cambridge by 29th June. Surely i too endorse the fact that they were playing April fool with us. very bad of them . It is not a joke for us. We are serious right..... I hope everyone will have a peace of mind at least by 15th APR Edited April 6, 2011 by bhagesri

needfinancialaid Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Mason Summer Seminar: June 29-July 19, 2011 Mid-Career Summer Program: July 20-August 18, 2011 thank you so much for the info vmk! omg now I'm losing hope, surely they would have notified us by now especially as we need to do visas and finances omg
Aoteroa Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Has anyone called this week? I just called - it didn't sound particularly promising I'm afraid! They repeated that decisions are "by 30 April", nothing new there, but she did a few times say "later in the month" so I don't think we can expect anything this week! They said that there is no planned "hosting day" for the MC-MPA admits (The MPPs have their open day tomorrow)Although admission decisions are "by 30 April" the financial aid decisions are not until May 2nd! We have until May 23rd to accept the place. They confirmed that the program for Mid Careers starts on 20 July The waiting continues for us all which is very frustrating! What are other people doing about accepting other schools with Deadlines of 15 April??
