anōnumos Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Hello, In case you've received an offer from UCSD and want to discuss some of its details, feel free to do it in this thread. I'll start. As a couple of other fellows, I recently received an offer to the master's program, though I applied to the PhD. The same e-mail indicated that my PhD application is still under review. As someone asked what I feel about it, whether it's a good sign, I do not think it is a sign at all =) MS is another program with different entry requirements. And the worst detail of the MS program is that master's students do not receive funding, which nullifies all the sweetness of the offer. I hope, you have something to add to this thread.
Kimo Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I am in the same road bro. Well, at least we escaped the rejection days. For a week or so, UCSD has been sending nothing but rejections for Masters and PhD applicants. I noticed in their email that they "independently" considered masters admission. Lets hope the best for the PhD. Have you guys spoken to professors? I tried but they never answer back.
Ali Fattah Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Are you sure about fund in MS program?!! anōnumos Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Are you sure about fund in MS program?!! If I attend UCSD as an MS student, can I receive financial aid? Answer: Most MS students never receive financial aid from CSE or UCSD. We cannot offer you financial aid now. You may look for financial aid from outside CSE on your own. Some MS students do find merit-based financial aid from CSE or UCSD later, but this is never guaranteed.
edvolkov Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I also received admit for MS. Hope for best, since up to now they have admitted very few people (but maybe it is because of budget cuts).
relentless Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Got an email stating that "Your PhD application is still under review, but we will notify you as soon as a decision is reached. Thank you for your patience until then. You will be receiving an official decision letter from the UCSD Office of Graduate Studies by mid April." Can anyone tell me whether it is a bad sign? Have they reviewed my application or still it is in the review queue? anōnumos and relentless 1 1
Kimo Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Any news for those who were accepted for Masters and whose PhD was under review? I still got no news here. Is there any guarantee they will reply before April 15th? If we accept another offer from another school and then we get an admit in UCSD, what should we do? I am not sure if we are waitlisted or if they havent sent out the PhD admits yet. Very few people on the site got admits. Does anyone know a friend or someone who got an admit earlier?
