blackpariah Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Hey guys, I'm just wondering if graduate school applications committees will look at your course load each semester? At my school (in Canada) the full course load is normally 5, however I've taken a few semesters with only 4 (and others with 5) courses. Does this look bad? Also, because of this, I may have to take a couple courses in the spring term after by 4th year. Would this look bad too? Thanks.
wtncffts Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'd say no to all your questions. I've never even heard of an adcomm taking course load into account. I spent three years at community college, three years at a university in undergrad, and I don't recall ever taking 5 courses. Your GPA matters to an extent, but what seems to matter most are letters of recommendation and statements of purpose (and research fit, as evidenced thereby), as well as writing samples.
