deeptigp Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Hi all, I have applied for MS in Computer Science ( Dept - Image Processing/Computer vision) and have an accept from UT-Austin and Georgia Tech, both of which have not offered me any financial aid. Am yet to hear from Univ Maryland, College Park, UNC-chapel hill). As to my future plans, I would want to take up a job in my field of interest after my Masters and have no intention of doing a Phd. I am totally confused as to how to choose among these places. What is the criteria that needs to be considered to choose one place over the other equally awesome or more awesome places? Thanks a lot, Deepti
nvseal Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I also have an admit from UT and will (most likely, still haven't accepted) be attending. Things to consider are of course the general suspects: research (unless you are more interested in coursework), location, school relationships in industry (seems to be basically the same for both UT and GT), etc. I'm not too familiar with computer vision labs so I can't speak to that. Also, since I didn't apply there, I'm not familiar with the other programs you haven't heard from yet. That said, I would think it would be okay to send them an email (since it is so late in the year) to see if you have been wait listed or a decision has been made.

Definitely UT Austin, as it is the highest ranked amongst your admits as well as very cheap.
frenzydude Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Definitely UT Austin (without the blink of an eye), as it is the highest ranked amongst your admits as well as very cheap tuition and cost of living in Texas. Also it has very good scopes for jobs.
deeptigp Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 (edited) Thank you for your inputs. I am leaning very much in favor of Austin too.. So we send "accept" to only one place amongst the places where we got accepted? Few of my friends who've applied for Fall'09 have actually received around 2-3 I-20s and they've made a decision about university after receiving the I-20. This they say that they've done only to be on the safe side. However, the Gatech's acceptance letter has an explicit column to be checked which says " I have not accepted admission in another graduate program and have no intention of doing so." Can we do the same? nvseal - I've called UNC and Maryland yesterday after not getting any response to the emails. They've asked me to keep my cool and that I should be hearing from them within a week Edited April 8, 2011 by deeptigp
