bahibak Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 visiting, speaking at length with Professor, having dinner with his students, attending his seminars, etc? The prof was so incredibly hospitable, and the students so sweet, I feel very hesitant declining the offer without first emailing him. But is this appropriate? Or should I just decline the offer via the website?
Red Bull Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I would send a courtesy email explaining that you are thankful for his reaching out to you in such a way. Let him know that you enjoyed your time- it may benefit him to know that you thought it very helpful.
MadameNon Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I sent a personal email before officially declining. Basically i just said that it was an incredibly difficult decision and thanked him for all his kindness and support during the process. They do understand about these things.
newms Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 You should definitely let the professor know via call or email. They won't take it personally and they will probably wish you the best, but it is good courtesy to say something to the prof.
