lc19890306 Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I've got these two offers right now. One is from the ece department of virginia tech, the other is from phd in information assurance program of northeastern university. I'm majoring in security and I prefer to work on network security or any other related fields. I've consulted many people, some say vt has better ranking, some say boston is obviously better in job-hunting. I don't want to teach in the college after my graduation. I just want to find a suitable job to make some money and go back to my country. There are almost two faculty members in VT's ece department, yaling yang and jung-min park. Both are following the famous thomas hou to attend various networks conferences like infocom and globecom. While there seems more people focusing on security at NEU, some of them are really enjoyable to attend top security conferences like S&P or CCS. It's apparent that CpE, esp. networks research, is not that good as power research at VT's ece department, which makes them high in ranking. I hope to balance the two things, finding an ideal advisor at this moment AND finding an ideal job in the future. SO how should I make decision? April 15 is approaching, I need you guys' suggestion.
