dogfishing Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I'm starting a speech pathology MS in the fall, and I figured it couldn't hurt to see who else was out there! Welcome to other incoming students and current ones!

Welcome to other incoming students and current ones! Me too! ... which you knew already haha. When are you moving to Boston? Slash, how are you going to start going about apartment searching?

Slash, how are you going to start going about apartment searching? I'm moving probably in mid-August, and as for apartment searching, I hooked up with another girl in the department who was looking for a roommate who already lives on the east coast... so she's helping out a lot with that. Mostly just looking at the BU housing search and other listings that seem at least slightly reputable. You?

I actually just heard about this gradcafe forum a couple weeks ago - but I'm attending BU in the fall as well! I'm from Maine and went to UMaine for undergrad...I am SO excited to move to Boston! I'm living with family in a suburb and commuting to Boston, but I wanted to share some of my roommate/living in Boston knowledge. I was just at BU this past Monday and was told that anyone who's looking for roommates can email Ada Kwok and she's going to get people connected. As far as apartments, I know Boston somewhat well and places that are less expensive or places you might want to avoid, etc....let me know if you need any help/info!

I e-mailed Ada and that's how I ended up getting hooked up with my current roomie; she was super nice and helpful. As far as locations go, I'm from the west coast so my Boston knowledge is exactly zilch! Any input on Packard's Corner? I'm looking at some places there and they're pretty competitively priced but I'm wondering if it's an okay area...

I'm so glad we have this little thread, I wonder if we are the only three on here who are doing to BU next fall. Any way, my living situation might have miraculously solved itself last night and I think I might have a place! My friend from undergrad is living in Boston right now going to BU for graphic design and she has a place in Brookline with 2 other girls. One is moving out in July though so there is a spot open for me. I'm really excited about it because it would be great to live with a friend who is already kind of established in the area and the apartment looks great. The only issue is that is a bit (not a ton but enough) out of my ideal price range but I think I am going to suck it up for at least a year since it means no hassle looking for a place or roommate, living with a friend and living within walking distance to school. It is between the B & C green lines which I like too, sort north and east of Coolidge Corner. Michhh, do you know anything about that area? It seems like a pretty nice area, especially considering the price tag. I think I am going to call her this weekend though and let her know for sure! It's so exciting : ) Can't wait to meet you both in September!

I think it's either in or very close to Allston (a part of Boston) where a lot of college students typically live. Plus it's really close to BU so that's great too!

It's a little bit farther (but completely close enough to everything with the train) from the actual city, but that makes it more affordable and a bit nicer than other parts closer to the city. My boyfriend is from the Boston area and moving to Brookline because he thinks it's the best place around Boston to live affordably...so I would suggest it! So glad to be "meeting" you both!!

dogfishing Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Has anyone heard anything about BU e-mails, orientation, etc?? I'm so impatient!
Michhh Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Has anyone heard anything about BU e-mails, orientation, etc?? I'm so impatient! No! I've been wondering the same thing...nothing yet!
elizalou Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 No! I've been wondering the same thing...nothing yet! Me neither, I want to start getting everything planned, it's so exciting! I also want to start getting my schedule figured out so I can figure out if I can finish in 2 years and a summer.
dogfishing Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Me neither, I want to start getting everything planned, it's so exciting! I also want to start getting my schedule figured out so I can figure out if I can finish in 2 years and a summer. I posted this on the Boston thread, but I thought I might as well post it here too in case anyone has insight... I'm knee-deep in realtors and potential apartments right now, but I'm having a problem. Our orientation is on Sept 1st... but 99.9% of the listings are "available September 1st". The small number that aren't are available in July, and the realtors that I've spoken to have made it pretty clear that I'm going to be lucky to find anything in August. Unfortunately, since I'm moving from Seattle it's not an option for me to start orientation without having an apartment, and I also can't afford to pay for 1 1/2 months that I won't be living in Boston, along with my current rent in Seattle. How have other people gotten around this? I'll admit, I'm feeling a little scared about how things are going to turn out right now.
slpath2014 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Hey, I'm super late to this thread, but is anyone else taking the exemption examination for SH 531?
slpath2014 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 i should probably introduce myself: i'm a first year grad student moving out from california (i was in living in france when i made my profile, so my location is wrong...)
