Hi,

Has anyone admiited into MS/PhD in ECE at TAMU heard about funding yet? Any idea when will we get to hear about assistantship offers???

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I mailed grad advisor ... He replied saying there is no funding ... & suggested me to contact professor's to get (if any) funding from them ... I contacted them but none of them has even replied ... I dont know what to do next ... Are we suppose to fill up ISS form for I-20 or wait for funding ?

Thanks.

Yeah, I also got a similar response, haven't received any response from most of the proffessors, those who replied do not provide funding without having worked with students

Anyone else got anything to say?

Hi,

I am now in the same situation you were at the time you posted this. I have been admitted to the ECE PhD program at TAMU with no info on funding yet. I also tried to contact professors with no response... I am an international student, and accepting an offer with no funding is not an option for me. So I was wondering what happened with you ? did you finally received funding ? if so when ?

Thank you !!!

Hi! I also have a bare "Congratulations!" on my AIS webpage and nothing else! I don't know if the ECE Department will do something about the financial aid later or the decisions are already made and there's no chance to get some FA! Pooh!

I'm not in the ECE department at Texas A&M, but I'm nearby in the CSE department. If you aren't receiving guaranteed funding from the ECE department, you must start e-mailing ECE professors right away and try to promote yourself as to your interest in working in their lab and reasons why you would be a good fit to receive funding. This is a crucial stage because you're officially competing for funding spots with other new ECE graduates who may not be receiving immediate funding.

And don't "cold contact" the ECE professors. They receive those kinds of contacts all the time and usually delete those messages. Sell yourself soon and sell yourself well. ECE at TAMU is nicely funded, but they're not throwing money around unless you have the merit.

Thank you for your helpful comment. Should I start sending emails right now? I have been admitted just two days ago. I don't know whether I should wait for hearing something about FA from the department or start contacting the ECE professors. Actually, I contacted some of them before applying. One said that my resume looks good but my background does not match his research interests and the other said that I have a good background but he has no vacant position. However, he encouraged me to apply in the hope that he could accept new students later. I don't know what to do!

Go ahead and keep contacting potential professors. I also recommend that you first contact the financial aid office (http://financialaid.tamu.edu/) and send an e-mail to a finaid advisor on possible funding revenue (e.g., on-campus university job). Additionally, contact your department's advising office and inquire about any available TA and non-TA positions that are available to you for possible options. It basically all comes down to contacting people to locate possible options. Since Texas A&M is such a huge school, available positions that waive tuition and offer financial assistance frequently change.

Edit: I stress that you do contact the ECE advising office for more information, too. Funding and financial assistance is usually first-come, first-serve, so if you contact soon, you'll be ahead of the other new ECE students that are looking for financial assistance as well.

Hello Every one,

I also had the same trouble as the others, I mailed the people in the department office and they said that all the funding has mostly been sent out, also they said that TA ship will not be offered to international students for the first semester and will only be given once you clear the ELPE on campus.

I did mail the profs with a detailed mail stating what I have done in my undergrad regarding the area in which I am interested.

Also i wanted to know how the funding avenues were in the Analog Electronics group, which what I have opted for, any chance of getting an RA ship now?

Thanks!
