UIC or Reapplying for Spring 2011

Hello All,

My GRE score is 1400 (Q-750,V-650,AWA-3.5) and TOEFL iBT - 117.

I had applied to 9 universities for Fall 2011 but received admit only from UIC for MS CS. I wish to specialize in Machine Learning (NLP).

Am unsure about UIC for MS CS and am considering defering my admit and trying for Spring 2012 admission. Can anyone guide me on this. Any info on MS CS in UIC will be very helpful.

By mistake i have mentioned the year as 2011 in the topic. To clarify, it shud be 2012................ Any suggestions on the topic???

Are you still in school? Are you going to have higher grades or more experience by the time you reapply? I'm just wondering because if your application is going to be basically the same when you reapply, there's no reason you would do better the second time around, so you might as well take your admissions now. If you do think your application will be substantially better if you try again in the future, then I would reapply. UIC has a decent program but it doesn't have the name recognition that a lot of schools have and you might have better job prospects somewhere else, though it's good enough that I would just take the offer if you don't have a strong reason to think you'll do better if you reapply.

I am working in tcs for almost 3 years now.

I know my grades will not change. But i believe that i can better my SOP and LOR. Thats why i am reconsidering the admit.

Considering you'v been working at tcs for a while, i'm gonna assume you're from India. Well, other than if you get yourself an internship with some professor at some lab(IISC, IIT, TIFR etc) i dont see how you are going to improve your LoRs. Just my 2 cents(or in this case paise ).
