doogiej Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I had planned on applying to Northwestern's Sociology PhD program. I learned on my visit they offer 20 positions out of 250 applications. I just came across a MA/PhD program at NU that seems to be a better fit for my area of concentration; Human Development and Social Policy. Does anyone have a thought on which one is likely to be more competitive? I've never heard of a program like that so don't know how competitive it is likely to be. I will apply regardless.

Petersons.com puts the Human Development and Social policy admissions at 13% http://www.petersons.com/graduate-schools/northwestern-university-school-of-education-and-social-policy-program-in-human-development-and-social-policy-admissions-000_10014738_10088.aspx Hope that helps!
aefaiths Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hello! just joining and don't know if it's too late to respond to you. I'm in the Human Development program and have MAJOR complaints about it (from funding issues to a lack of faculty support to, frankly, a crappy atmosphere). I've taken courses in the sociology department, attend their brown bag lunches, and have nothing but really positive things to say about it. If I could go back and do it all over again, I'd go for sociology.
