stillad Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Hey all, Two part question... Let me preface this by saying I don't have any plans to teach at the university level, so I'm not really concerned about how the degree would be perceived by a PhD program, but I am interested in some of the more prestigious MDiv programs (though I can't do anything about that right now due to family reasons) so keep that in mind when formulating answer. Thanks in advance!!! 1.) Anyone have any experience or heard anything about Nottingham's distance learning MA in either Church History or Systematic Theology? I'm not as familiar with Nottingham but I know Milbank teaches there (and actually helps teach one of the colloquium in the program) so it seems like a very good option. Anyway, I interested in anything anyone has to say (Likes, dislikes, thrown tomatoes, etc...) I'd appreciate any and all insights here. 2.) Anyone have any input into how the degree would be perceived by a Duke/Emory/Vandy MDiv department? Generally DL degrees aren't well respected but there seems to be a slow but steady shift in that respect. Nottingham seems like a great place, Duke's added the MACP, etc, so more and more top universities seem to be taking advantage of technological advances to overcome geographical/family reasons that previously kept people from being able to pursue studies at the most desirable institutions. Obviously this would be different if the end goal were a PhD and a spot in academia but that's not what I'm interested in, so I'm just curious how it's viewed. Anyone have any input on this? THANKS AGAIN! peace, -T
