curiouserandcuriouser Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 requires the GRE. Have you taken it? I plan to apply there. Yes I took the GRE but it will be 5 years in September so I guess I'd better send my scores NOW so I don't need to pay to take it again... let alone take it again!
jldstudio Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I didn't realize it required the GRE, luckily my scores are still valid. I like what I've read about the program, but I've also heard the area is very expensive to live in?
jackthecrow Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 If you get accepted to Stanford, there's a good chance you get offered living facilities along with a stipend... so I've heard.
nimda Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 They offer tuition and stipend, but only accept something like 6 per yr. Its also out there; so if you are looking for more exposure to visiting artists, etc. this might not be exactly the right place. Its worth a shot.
losemygrip Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Stanford is NOT well known for its studio art program. Are people attracted to it because of the Stanford name? Or what?
clem09 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 stanford is fully funded at stanford. rare to find a fully funded art program. it's still in its infancy and its general rep is probably a big draw. palo alto is tech central - i just would feel so far removed from all the vibrancy of sf/oakland/berkeley down there.
losemygrip Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Pretty much all reputable programs have SOME full funding slots available. The question is whether ALL admits get full funding. Some schools have moved to that model; some haven't. I suspect Stanford is in that model, and that's what you're referring to. The way to do it is to apply to a range of schools, and then go to the one that offers the best package. You might not get in at Stanford, but might get full funding at CSULB.
Studiohound Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Great MFA in photography: Joel Leivick is phenomenal. The rest of the program is really quite mediocre, and completely rests on the laurels of the Stanford name
