chench Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Hey, I'm planning on applying for the conservation program at the Institute of fine arts at NYU. They don't really specify the required GRE results other then 'score very well'. Does anyone have a clue what the is the standard or required grade for the program? Thanks!
cunninlynguist Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 There is no minimum score cutoff and we do not release score statistics. Although most successful applicants score very well in both the Verbal and Written portions' date=' GRE scores are a single admissions indicator. Your personal statement, letters of recommendation, and academic transcripts matter as much or more.[/quote'] I'd hazard a guess that 'very well' is deliberately ambiguous, and consequently places the onus on the applicant to feel confident in their scores. Anything above the 80th percentile seems like a safe bet - opinions may differ, though; some people might think it'd be lower and some higher. I don't think there's any available information regarding a score average or median. Judging by the statement quoted above, I'd also say that the GRE isn't a major element of how they evaluate applicants, and they don't seem to account for the Quantitative section at all.
