chloeeh Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 (edited) Are there any non-psych majors/minors that applied or are planning to apply for graduate programs? I'm currently majoring in Politics at a university in England and hoping to apply for I/O psych programs(Ph.D) in the states in 2 years. The problem is, here in England, we declare our majors when we apply for undergraduate institutions and stick to certain disciplines till we graduate(meaning that i'm not allowed to take any courses outside of politics dept / will not have got any research experience related to psych.). I know they certainly accept non-psych majors but I feel like they probably have minored in psych or taken some psych courses. Any non-psych majors who got accepted to graduate programs or anyone who could give me any advice in this case(I wonder if there's any way to boost my chances apart from getting high GRE scores(I'll take the psych subject test too!) & GPA), please answer. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Edited July 23, 2011 by chloeeh
chloeeh Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 i have a B.A. in Tv, Film & Media studies and i just got admitted to a M.A. in psych...but im here in the U.S. but even though, im pretty sure your schools in the UK do accept non-psych majors with special requirements (e.g. core psych courses) just to show that you can do the work. That's how it was for me, i spent a year taking pre-requisite psych courses just to qualify as an applicant for the grad program. So dont worry that b/c you are non-psych that you have less of a chance to get in. Just look into the specific schools that you are interested in, if they dont have a "how to apply if you are non-psych major" page then just call them. Just remember do to well in those pre-req courses to show the dept. that you are viable at the coursework and you'll be fine! keep us posted! Thanks! may i ask which program you got accepted to?
