Hi,

I put myself in tight spot with 2 TA positions being offered by 2 departments at the same time.

The college of engineering has a program for first years and I gave an interview with them in the Spring quarter. They turned me down and I applied for a TA position in my dept.

Meanwhile the coe got back to me and offered me a nine month appointment, which could be extended for the duration of my study. I could have informed my dept about this development but procrastinated. Shortly after I signed the contract with coe, my dept informed me of a TA appointment and the class allocation.

All through this my advisor has been away on a sabbatical and was inaccessible. I did not get to inform him about the coe TA offer.

When the dept mail came in, I wrote to him asking if I can take the coe offer, he wrote back saying the dept needs me and wants to take time before he can talk to the dept. My advisor has been out of funds since I arrived and he cannot assure me of support should I need it.

I want to take the coe offer, but I dont want to piss off the dept.

What should I do?
