Themollusc Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Hello everyone. I'm a science major in the third year of my Bachelor's degree with a 3.9 GPA (if it helps any). I recently took a year long introduction to philosophy class and fell in love with the subject, though it is too late for me to pursue it in an undergraduate context during my current degree. After some further research, I have found further interest in metaphysics, the history of philosophy, and epistemology. I am contemplating whether it would be possible to pursue a MA in philosophy-mostly for the purpose of intellectual enrichment- but I am unsure it is even possible given my background. I intend on pursuing a PhD in my field and could probably benefit from improving my writing abilities beyond what they are. I have only two criteria when choosing a school- the rank and reputation of the program means nil to me. My two criteria are that: a) the program be a year long or slightly longer the program offers some sort of tuition stipend [i have no problem paying for living expenses, but being an international student makes tuition grossly expensive]. Could anyone possibly suggest a course of action, or places to look at? I hope I am not coming across as deluded- I am aware of how competitive the field is. In any event, here's to hoping I am not forever relegated to coffee stained copies of Aristotle's Ethics! Thank you for your help!
scito Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I know St. Andrews/Stirling have a Postgraduate Conversion Degree: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/sasp/conversion.html but I'm not so sure about their tuition stipend, UK schools often don't have a lot of funds for that. But there might be more universities with similar programs!
