Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Now I am registered, this is me in the previous post. Sorry about my silly mistake above  Anyway, I'm thinking of taking an appartment for the first semester and meanwhile look for an off campus housing. I'll be ariving with my wife and hopefully she'll find a workplace.
Guest guest Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I'm poli sci. Were you thinking of the apartments on campus?
avestin Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I'm poli sci. Were you thinking of the apartments on campus? Yes. I saw new grad students usually get the Chapman apartments. A little smaller from our current appartment, but I guess it'll do for the time being. The moving of all our stuff later on does give me a headache, though.
Guest guest Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Yeah I was thinking I was gonna try those apartments too, I'd like to see them first, though, to know what I'm getting myself into...I mean how do they define "Kitchenette"? haha
avestin Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Yeah I was thinking I was gonna try those apartments too, I'd like to see them first, though, to know what I'm getting myself into...I mean how do they define "Kitchenette"? haha That is a good question. That is why I want to travel there during May or even April, to see the campus and the appartments as well. The pictures and virtual tour they show in their site is noce but not quite enough. It is often misleading and never gives a good estimate of the size of the appartment.
Guest Knack Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Hi. I've been accepted into the Stony Brook Poli Sci PhD program and have yet to accept their offer. What have you heard about their financial aid packages?
avestin Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Well, since there is no response from the other Poli Sci student, I'll say then in favour of maybe other prospective Biological Sciences students to SUNY, that the stipend is about 25,000$, plus there is TA, tuition waiver, etc. Knack, where are you from? I ask this because I would like to hear from other international students' experience regarding moving to the USA.
Guest poli sci admit Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 HI, I'm the other poli sci acceptance. I was offered a 13,000 stiped as a graduate assistant and a full tuition waiver. I do know that they currently have students on a waiting list for funding, though, so good luck if that's your circumstance !
Guest Knack Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Hey. I'm from Pennsylvania. Sorry I cannot be of any assistance.
mutantxp Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Hey Poli Sci I'm an English accept and I got the same type of money (+ 2-3K fellowship). Funding does seem pretty scarce (at least for arts and sciences grad students). I mean 25K for a bio accept? That sounds like a lot.
