garimaT Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Hi.. I am an indian student willing to apply in MFA program Fall 2012[ceramics]. I am an engineer by profession but I have been learning pottery and ceramic sculpture for past 2 years. Are there other people with non traditional background who are accepted in ceramic program? Also can anyone share their BFA ceramic portfolio ?
michaelwebster Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Many schools take students that don't have a previous degree in art. Good luck!
garimaT Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 Thanks Michael... are you doing your MFA from SAIC?
losemygrip Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 You will need to have an EXCELLENT portfolio. You may also be required to make up "deficiency" work in some programs. For instance, they may require that you have an undergraduate degree with "X" hours in ceramics and "Y" hours in art history. They might provisionally admit you while you made up those credits, or admit you as a special student until you reached that point. In fact, it might not hurt you to go ahead and see if you could enroll somewhere as a non-degree student and actually take some ceramics courses and art history so that you'll be better prepared for graduate school. garimaT 1
