Networking, portfolio prep, and a tailored resume for a very particular position are very important. Strong work experience that is applicable to your position is important, if you don't have that you need to volunteer or intern if you can. This all depends upon what you want to do. Do you want to teach? Do you want to consult? Do you want to work in non-profits? Do you want to work in sales? Each field has different requirements and expectations for their applicants. Most professional jobs want a cover letter and a resume. Letters of recommendation upon request only.
