elevatemelater Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Hello, My story: I graduated from a state school on the west coast with an awful 2.3 GPA from my BS in Biochemistry. Following graduation, I worked for a biotech company as a bioprocess technician for a couple years. After relocating across the country and being unable to find a job due to the current state of the economy, I went back to school to pursue a BS in ChemE. I'm currently in my second semester, earning a 3.8GPA for the first one. I took the GRE last summer and got a 780Q 640V 4.0A. I was thinking that instead of finishing the remaining 2 years of the BS program, that I would try to apply to a low ranked MS program. I'm in NYC so I've been looking at NYU-Poly and maybe Manhattan College. Can anyone give me any insight as to whether I stand a chance? I am just looking for some general feedback. Thanks
emmm Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I think you might be better off staying in your current program until your overall undergraduate GPA is over 3.0 (or as high as possible). Anything under 3.0 is going to be problematic. Right now you just have one good semester trying to balance 8 semesters that resulted in a poor GPA. I'd say give it at least another year -- don't apply this cycle.
