Hello,

I am an international BSc Civil Engineering graduate applying to the MS Petroleum Eng. program at the under-listed schools.

  1. UT
  2. TAMU
  3. Louisiana State University
  4. University Of Pittsburgh
  5. Penn State University
  6. Univ. Of Kansas
  7. Univ. Of Alberta

I chose these schools because most of their Professors share my Reservoir Eng.research interest (ie. flow through Porous Media, hydrology). I contacted some professors last week but have no feedback yet.

Kindly view my profile below and please comment on the ff issues if you can.

Undergraduate Degree: Civil Engineering

Overall GPA: 3.2

Final year GPA: 3.48

Length of Degree: 4

Position in Class: 9/146 (93rd Percentile)

GRE Scores:

Q: 800

V: 630

W: 4.0

Research Experience: 1 semester research with my prof. ( on sub-surface hydrological analysis). I also used it for my dissertation

Work Experience : 18 months in drilling works, excavation works and environmental health and safety control.

Awards/Honors/Recognitions: High School Scholarship for best Physics student, Good performance Award at work.

My questions are:

  1. What are my chances of admission and RA, TA or Fellowship funding?
  2. Is my limited Petroleum back-ground going to affect my admission/ funding chances considerably?

Although my BSc degree was not in Petroleum, it included courses in Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics, Hydrology, Environmental Quality Eng., Numerical Analysis and Computer Programming and I scored an A (Distinction) in all these courses.

Also, over the past 18 months, I have studied to cover the back-ground Petroleum Courses (i.e. Drilling, Production, Reservoir, Formation Evaluation) primarily by using "The Standard Handbook Of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering by Lyons & Plisga)."

Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for making time to help me out.
