Graf Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I have recently found this forum and have learned so much from it. Some great info here that I have passed onto friends that are also interested in graduate school. I'm currently a senior getting ready to graduate in the spring and am excited for continuing my education. I'm looking at Experimental Programs but don't know if I should be focusing on applying to Masters or PhD programs. Or if I should just take time off and get more research experience. A little about me... I'm a Psychology major with minors in Philosophy and History, currently I have a 3.4 cum GPA and a 3.7 in Psychology. I will also be graduating from the Honors Program at my school. I started off at a Community College after high school and transferred into my current institution. I have a year of experience as a Research Assistant, am almost completed with one project and have started another for my senior honors project. I have also worked full time (some semesters up to 60 hours a week) in my five year college career. I have also spent the last year working at a Behavioral Agency. I will be taking the GRE's in a few weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks
honkycat1 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I don't know how useful a masters in experimental psych will be... and what options you have with that. If you want to do experimental psych as a career, you will have to have a PhD eventually, and I don't know how many of PhD programs in those fields accept a masters. I would definitely 1) Apply to PhD programs, if you don't get in 2) Wait a year and get some posters/publication under your belt and apply again Or you can skip #1 completely and just take a year off and work as a RA if you can support yourself. Also make sure you rock your GRE because your GPA is average at best.
