RoseDay Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Hi everyone, I have recently graduated from a small liberal arts school in Pennsylvania, and I am interested in pursuing a Broadcast Journalism Masters Degree in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In the future, I'd like to pursue a career as a news anchor for a small town news station. I'm not really looking to be on CNN or a big time journalist or anything. I'd even like to perhaps manage a station one day. Bottom line, I'd like to stay in the area...not really interested in moving to a city bigger than Pittsburgh. I've been researching, and I don't think there are any good, competitive journalism schools in Pittsburgh. The only one I've come across is Point Park University. I read that it's one of 7 schools in the nation to offer a dual Masters program--MBA/MA in Journalism. I think that's cool because I would be able to get a Masters in Business and Journalism at the same time. The other schools that offer this, however, are big name schools like Boston University. I'm slightly jaded from knowing that there are other better schools out there that offer the same thing. But basically, I think the Point Park program would be right for me, I'd just like some opinions since I'm new here & just starting out my search. What have you heard about Point Park's Graduate Programs...if anything? I'm getting the sense that they aren't a big name school/not competitive. Do you think this would hurt my chances of obtaining a career in broadcast journalism in Pittsburgh? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
