EE Ph.D 2012 (Applied Electromagnetics).....low GRE score problem:(:(

Hi all,

Applying for Ph.D. in antennas & EM to:

UCLA

UMich

UIUC

UT Austin

G.Tech

GRE:540(V)+740(Q) +4.5 AWA

TOEFL:116

MS: McGill Univ. ,Canada .....GPA: 3.9/4

B.S: WBUT,India ........GPA 8.6/10

Publications: 7 Conf. papers+3 Journals

Any chances of cracking the 5 univs with such a low GRE score...esp quant. sucked big time when i gave the exam 3 yrs ago!!!!

Pls pour in ur suggestions guys!!!

It's really not a BAD score, but given how old the score is, why didn't you just take it again if you were not happy with it?

I see ---- then don't worry about it (since you can't change it anyway). I doubt it would keep you out of any programs. The other components of your application are much more important. Given your publications, it sounds as though your research experience is more than fine and your LORs should be correspondingly strong.

Ya...u r right i can't change anything right now or otherwise i have to defer my apps by 1 yr if i want to improve the score....but u have any idea about the cutoffs ..i think they require atleast 760 for quants in EE dept!!!!!

I don't know about that -- I suppose it's possible. They get so many applications, I'm sure they don't mind if they lose some good applicants in their initial screening. Do any of your LOR writers have personal connections at any of the schools you are applying to?
