Rachel B Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 One of the schools I'm applying to wants me to talk about "my plans for professional development." This is the first time I've seen this prompt and was wondering if someone could help me out with what exactly they want me to talk about.
sabrinamichelle Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 it sounds like they want to know where you want to go in your career and how you will get there.
abhinavslimshady2 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 yup I think sabrinamichelle is right, Its like the want to know what your future goals are and how you plan to achieve them.
Rachel B Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Thank you. I guess I was just confused because the wording seemed very vague, but I appreciate the clarity offered by your input!
gradschoolguru Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 A great way to handle "plans for professional development" is to discuss ways in which you will enhance your marketability beyond what is required to complete your graduate degree. In other words, describe extracurricular activities related to your career path that you will participate in, conferences you will attend, online activity you plan to become involved in (e.g., blogging), efforts you will put into networking, etc. Think about whatever will make you a more desirable and well-rounded professional in your field.
