anrios Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I want to do research in graduate school. At this point I really don't care to much about reputation as long as I could do research in Machine Learning / Data Mining. Schools I am applying to: University of Kentucky University of Tennessee Vanderbilt University and my long shot The Ohio State University GPA: 2.996 Major GPA: 3.63 GRE: Verbal: 147 Quantitative: 151 Writing: 4.0 Recommendation Letters: 1 great 1 good 1 average Awards: Outstanding Senior in Computer Science I have had two internships. One at a startup and the other at a large company doing software development. I have also had 2 independent studies. 1 in AI and the other was extra Statistics not taught in the upper level Stats class here. I have also presented once at KYMAA. My gpa the last three semesters is around a 3.3. I graduate in December. What are other schools that would give me a shot? I understand I will not get into a top 20 school with the low GPA and low GRE without any research experience.
OH YEAH Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 (edited) What degree do you want? What do you want to do with your degree? I worry that you won't be able to do much with a PhD from UKY or UTK that you couldn't already with your undergrad degree. Masters is a different story. Edited November 11, 2011 by OH YEAH
anrios Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 I would like to do industry research. I want to do a PhD but will probably need to do a masters first to get into a good program. What schools would you recommend that would be in my range?
