I want to do research in graduate school. At this point I really don't care to much about reputation as long as I could do research in Machine Learning / Data Mining.

Schools I am applying to:

University of Kentucky

University of Tennessee

Vanderbilt University

and my long shot

The Ohio State University

GPA: 2.996

Major GPA: 3.63

GRE: Verbal: 147 Quantitative: 151 Writing: 4.0

Recommendation Letters: 1 great 1 good 1 average

Awards: Outstanding Senior in Computer Science

I have had two internships. One at a startup and the other at a large company doing software development.

I have also had 2 independent studies. 1 in AI and the other was extra Statistics not taught in the upper level Stats class here.

I have also presented once at KYMAA.

My gpa the last three semesters is around a 3.3. I graduate in December. What are other schools that would give me a shot? I understand I will not get into a top 20 school with the low GPA and low GRE without any research experience.

What degree do you want? What do you want to do with your degree? I worry that you won't be able to do much with a PhD from UKY or UTK that you couldn't already with your undergrad degree. Masters is a different story.

I would like to do industry research. I want to do a PhD but will probably need to do a masters first to get into a good program. What schools would you recommend that would be in my range?
