Seanish Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I'm looking at several humanities PhD programs around the country. I know the field is relatively small and many of the professors from different programs know each other (acknowledgments in book introductions and such). Would it be strange to apply to different programs with different directions of study? I'm worried that I may look indecisive but at the same time the last professor I spoke to about grad school told me that although the SOP isn't meaningless it's not 100% binding. Any thoughts?
maeisenb Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I can't say I know the answer to this, but to prompt someone else I think you might need to qualify a bit: how different is different? Are you talking about sociology vs. biology or more like literature and American studies (with a specialization in literature)?
