I know you should send a thank you note after an interview, but what about just attending an information session? I talked with a few of the professors and administrators of the program, but it was nothing formal. There were about 10-15 other students there as well. This particular school doesn't have interviews.

My mother seems to be under the impression that they will clip the note to my file and it will strengthen my application, but I'm not so sure it won't just end up in the trash or sitting in a pile of paper.

Suggestions? Thanks!

If the worst that can happen is that it could end up in the trash or sitting in a pile of paper...why not do it? You aren't going to have to expend much money on it nor time. I think it would be a good idea.
