caviar Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011 It seems like most people here applying for grad school emphasize their previous research experience and interest in academia in their SOP. But what if I'm interested in a terminal master's/M.Eng or some other non-research based graduate program in engineering? Can I say in my SOP that I want a master's to open new doors/job opportunities, or does that look bad? Should I feign an interest in research? Helpplease123 Posted December 29, 2011 Share Posted December 29, 2011 I'm going for public admin which (I hope) doesn't have to be all about going into research either and my SoP is mainly about the work I wish to do once i've graduated...I don't think they're assuming everyone is using the masters to get a Phd, there aren't enough places after all!
