ewurgler Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 First thing, Berkeley only allows you to apply to one grad program, so you would have to choose. Secondly, research "fit" is very much a factor in admissions, so make sure there is faculty doing something similar to what you hope to study at all of the schools you apply to. Otherwise, your stats won't matter. Your GPA is within the "range" admitted students at most of the schools you list, so just make sure you are a good fit before you apply. Do your research of all schools. Other than that, study for the GRE and try to get your quantitative score up...sociology does have a math-like component, thus you will benefit from a higher score. That is my advice.
Tritonetelephone Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I just wanted to say thanks for not applying this year. I wouldn't want to compete against you (that's a compliment aimed towards your stats, btw.) Also, more recent law profs would be best for LORs. Whoever knows best who you are now. And no, your legal scholarship stuff would not be a detriment if you're doing law and society. Silly...
misterpat Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I worry that my plans to teach in a law school will detract from my Soc application. Obviously Berkeley JSP would be fine with that, but wonder about others. You might be right, you might be wrong. But if you are seriously worried about it, don't mention it in your SOP! Why let them hold it against you, when they have no way of proving your intent to teach in a law school after you are done?
