AbaNader, I agree. I think for MIT, we are still not written off until second week of March. Oi....

ralfdao, no one I know got news from Purdue yet.

I'm under pressure to take my Toronto offer...

dude its not uncommon for two or three profs to want you, but it mostly will depend on availability of funding and availability of projects that they think you could work on.

let us know if the prof gets back with funding info.

I just heard the news that If you haven't heard from MIT mechanical as of last week, you're either rejected or wait listed. Maybe there are some stragglers left but 200 offers were sent last week.

Toronto here I come.

How did you hear this?

Hey CanuckBoy, would you mind if I ask your admissions stats? I'm not Mechanical, I'm aero-astro, but I assume we're still playing in the same ball field.

Undergraduate GPA: 3.78

Graduate GPA: 3.93

GRE: 800/500/4.0

Great references (so I'm told)

Two journal papers

1 year research experience in MEMS

1 year industrial research in thermal management

1.5 year research experience in CFD

No connections with any professors in any of the schools I applied to. (I think that's my downfall)

Expecting most if not all rejects from US schools.

Well you certainly have some impressive accolades. It would have been nice to go to MIT, but the school is what you make it. I can tell by your record that you'll be a BEAST no matter where you go! :)

@Golgotha

Yep, me too. I applied for MS though. I thought you would've been admitted for sure given your pub record and undergrad at MIT... Are PhD admissions still handled by a committee? It seems like profs should have the final say when it comes to taking students directly into their labs.

To be honest I don't have the slightest idea what happens over at admissions. When applying for my Master's I was wait-listed even though I had been offered a position in a lab already. So it's really a mysterious process. But I have heard that MIT has a bias against admitting it's own undergrads into their graduate program..."inbreeding" they call it. Not sure if this is true but my MIT history could very well have worked against me.

Does anyone have any update from CalTech? It seems they have made a few offers on late February, and according to the Results from the last years, it seems all the results in late March are rejections! So, if I am rejected why no one lets me know right now?! Even if they had rejected some people already, I could assume I am on some kind of waiting list, but this doesn't seem to be the situation.
