To be honest I don't have the slightest idea what happens over at admissions. When applying for my Master's I was wait-listed even though I had been offered a position in a lab already. So it's really a mysterious process. But I have heard that MIT has a bias against admitting it's own undergrads into their graduate program..."inbreeding" they call it. Not sure if this is true but my MIT history could very well have worked against me.

That really sucks. Having said that, you've ticked MIT off that bucket list already I suppose...

Wishing you good luck for your backups/other preferences.

Hi everyone, here are my info:

Applied: Illinois UC-Purdue-Nebraska-TAMU-Florida-Manchester

Accepted Nebraska-Purdue

Rejected: Illinois

Pending: TAMU-Florida-Manchester

GRE: Q150 (percentile 64%) V154 (percentile 53%) AW4.5 (percentile 4.5%)

TOEFL: 104 (I'm from Ecuador)

Probably will be attending Purdue

I'm married, my wife has applied to the same schools but in her field (food science) and has not received any notifications. If not accepted we will definitely go for J1-J2 visa. If both accepted we will go for F1-F1 (obviously).

Regarding the application. On both colleges where I got admission, I contacted faculty members and explained my interests. I don't know if they liked what they heard, but I believe they were determinant in the application outcome, since my GRE scores are rather low. On the college where I got rejected I contacted no one.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if you guys heard or plan on hearing any more app statuses.

I'm looking to hear back from these schools Ph.D. ME programs:

Cornell

CMU

UPenn

Stanford

UMichigan

Harvard

I heard from a professor I keep in contact about Cornell so I know what's going on there unofficially. Anybody else hear anything from these schools?

Hey guys, anyone of you heard back about Ph.D. program from any of these places:

UT Austin Engineering Mechanics

Northwestern TAM

UCLA Mechanical

Boston U.

I have got accepted with full funding from UCI and an interview from Michigan Tech,

So I emailed/called yesterday all the respective admissions below:

Cornell

CMU

UPenn

Stanford

UMichigan

Harvard

Cornell has sent out all their requests to all admitted already. As for the others, I'm still waiting to hear back, they all said they are still "reviewing applications". Stanford should be the last one since they said decisions go out late Mar/early Apr.

Harvard's decision will come via snail mail on Mar 15 to anybody else that applied there.

Anybody else hear anything on the schools above?

So if we haven't received a rejection from Cornell it implies that we are waitlisted? I've been freaked out by the piles of rejections posted in the results section here but have not received one myself. Who did you contact at Cornell?

i called up the grad office at purdue about two weeks ago and they said that my application is still under reveiw, which was the same as two weeks before that.

I am also in touch with a professor thier who recently told me that this has been an unusually bad year as way too many people applied.

I am quiet sure that i am dunked but lets wait and see.

If anyone else has contacted the school please do let us know the update on the app process going on thier.

@impulse_nerve, not sure, but I called Marcia below:

Marcia James Sawyer, Graduate Field Administrator

Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

107 Upson Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853-7501

607 255-5250

She should be able to relay your status.

Have you heard from UPenn?

Posted

@Darkmattertek

I sent an email out to Upenn, JHU, and Cornell asking about status updates.

Nothing from UPenn, but I just called Ms. Sawyer and she said while I was not rejected that I did not receive an admission for the PhD program. Instead, they offered me acceptance to the Masters of Engineering program (unfunded). She said she picked out 33 people for that. Bummer, I would've gone for it if it was funded possibly. In any event, Johns Hopkins said they are sending out mass stuff 3/21.

For any others waiting on Cornell, Ms. Sawyer indicated that she was still sending rejections out (on the letter S or F, I couldn't tell what she said but I'm leaning toward S) throughout the remainder of the week.

I'll let you know if I hear anything back from UPenn.

Anyone hear from Columbia? I saw a few people got a letter in the mail/fedex and someone got admission to their masters program even though they applied for the phd.

im the guy who got into columbia MS instead of PHD,they sent me the email this morning, no word of funding. so in your post, Ms. Sawyer is from Cornell or Penn?

"bad year"? I think professors see it as a good thing. Larger pool, more options. Not to mention the windfall from application fees.

Its a cruel cruel world...

Ms. Marcia Sawyer from Cornell. Still no response from Penn. Aba, that columbia thing is weird... what's your specialty/ who do you want to work with in Columbia?

Posted

I would like to work in fluid, still contacting professors for funding, probably i will decline anyway because no money for me.

Hey did anyone here from Stanford or Berkeley's ME program? Or know when they will sent out their decisions, when their visiting days are, etc?

I have a friend who got admitted to the MS Mech program at Stanford in early February. She had a fellowship interview on February 16th. I am not sure about the Mech department at Stanford, but Aeronautics and Astronautics department already sent out all admits and rejections.

BTW, my friend who got the fellowship from Mech program did Aerospace Engr in her undergrad. It is much easier to get an admit and a subsequent funding offer from stanford if you apply to their Mech E program compared to their Aero-Astro since the former has undergraduate students that require TAs.

helllo,

ive heard that stanford Ms Mechanical admits have been started long back. which means is it a reject for those of us who have not received any mail from them.

Does anyone know if gatech has started giving MS Mechanical admits?
