InquilineKea Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 That, combined with Airbnb? hotelmaps.com is showing a lot of hotels that are far cheaper than what Google Maps ever showed me.
eco_env Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 priceline.com, if you aren't very picky about the location of your hotel.
A Finicky Bean Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Travelocity unpublished rates is the way I go. Or expedia unpublished rates. Neither have failed me yet!
InquilineKea Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the suggestions - I'll bookmark this thread if I ever need to book a hotel when visiting! (I do tend to stay longer than others due to interdisciplinary interests) Edited January 29, 2012 by InquilineKea

(I do tend to stay longer than others due to interdisciplinary interests) If you are going for an interview/admitted students event, the program might pay for your hotel, or arrange for you to stay with a student.
InquilineKea Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 (edited) That's true - and the program does pay for my visit. The thing with me is that I should always have a backup plan in mind when I'm staying with a student (and if I'm staying for longer than most people - which I do due to my interdisciplinarity - my interdisciplinary interests mean that professors in other departments will also be important for my decision too). msafiri Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 InquilineKea, I'm also in an interdisciplinary field and found that in weekend-long campus visits (arriving on Thursday, departing on Sunday), I was able to meet ALL of the faculty I might work with and graduate students from the relevant programs. I'm not quite sure why you think/assume you'll need a week to get to know everyone. It's not like you need to meet every professor in every semi-relevant department, just those that might plausibly be on your committee. While it's a bonus to meet the rest, it's certainly not necessary (plus assumes they have the availability to do so, which you really should make sure of before booking flights, hotels, etc.). Rather than trying to stay extra days to have what may be low-quality interactions, focus on having as many quality interactions with the most important people (potential advisors, their grad students) as possible. To me, it seems like you're trying to have a complete picture of literally every facet of what your life would be like if you went to X or Y school but, that's impossible even if you stay for two weeks. You'll never know exactly how things will be until you get there. I'm guessing from all of your posts that you are a bit OCD and like to have everything. planned in advance Sadly, that isn't possible given your situation.
bostonparkplaza Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 There are lot of sites to which you can find the hotels to your priority, but even hotels.com is good, I got to see lot of good cheapest hotel to which one can stay.
